About the Author…

How to Succeed as a Supervillain by Following the Evil Overlord List isn’t the first book I’ve self-published on Amazon. Around about nine years ago I published a non-fiction book entitled AQUATICAL•LATIN which examined the etymology (the meaning) of the scientific names of around 950 species of the most common tropical marine fishes in the aquarium hobby. You can find this title at: Amazon UK and Amazon US.

Here’s a brief summary of my career to date: I started off by writing articles for aquarium magazines and ended up writing more than 200 pieces discussing various aspects of reef aquarium maintenance. I was widely published and have at one time or another written for virtually every major English-speaking aquarium magazine in the UK and the US plus had articles published in France, Italy, and Germany.

After retiring I wrote AQUATICAL•LATIN which received a 5 star review on Amazon. I laughingly refer to it as the book which established a new category of non-fiction books, unpopular science. You can read more about it in the Non-Fiction section of this website.

Having written a fairly technical book, my first as solo author, I decided it might be a good idea to find a way of polishing up my prose. Noticing the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum in Lichfield had a monthly writing group I went along to see what it was all about. I’m now a regular attendee as I find it makes a pleasant change to write something different from my usual day-to-day writing.

I’m writing a series of urban fantasy books which I’m tentatively referring to as the Wheel of the Year Sequence. It’s an urban fantasy set in contemporary times and, in a similar vein to series such as The Dresden Files, The Rivers of London, andA Discovery of Witches, depicts a world where magic and the supernatural are real but hidden away from the majority of the population. Largely set in the UK, much of the narrative is centred on London, along with excursions to various locations around the country. I’m hoping this series will eventually be picked up by a publisher. I’m in the process of finishing off book six, so watch this space…
