Dr William Thomas Calman was born on this day. A major figure in carcinology, Calman was a Scottish zoologist specializing in crustaceans who became keeper of zoology at the Natural History Museum, 1927 – 1936.
Calman described more than 230 taxa and is honoured in the names of around 50 species, mainly crustaceans.
