This Day in History: 1855-08-10
Hans Jacob Hansen (1855 – 1936) was born on this day. He was a Danish zoologist specialising in arthropods, perhaps the greatest name in Danish carcinology. Hansen was a member of the Entomological Department of the Zoological Museum of Copenhagen, participated in the Danish Ingolf Expedition (1895), and worked on materials from many of the major oceanographic expeditions of the time.
Hansen described numerous taxa and is honoured in the names of at least two genera and in the names of a number of species under hanseni.
