Victor G. Springer (1928 – ) was born on this day. He is a US ichthyologist, Senior Scientist Emeritus, National Museum of Natural History, Division of Fishes. He is a specialist in the anatomy, classification, and distribution of fishes, with a special interest in blennies and tropical marine shore fishes. His numerous publications include Revision of the fish genus Ecsenius (Blenniidae, Blenniinae, Salariini) (1971), The Indo-Pacific blenniid fish genus Ecsenius (1988), and a popular science book Sharks in Question, the Smithsonian Answer Book (1989).
Springer has described numerous taxa and is honoured in the names of a number of species under springeri.
