Georg Duncker (1870 – 1953) was born on this day. He was a German ichthyologist, associated with the Hamburg Zoological Museum (Zoologischen Museum Hamburg) from 1907. He participated in the first year of the Hamburg Südsee-Expedition (1908-10), collecting specimens on behalf of the Museum. From 1928 onward, he worked as a curator and professor at the Museum.
Duncker described around 40 taxa and is honoured in the name of a genus of pipefishes, Dunckerocampus, and in the names of a number of species under dunckeri.
