Peter Humphry Greenwood (1927 – 1995) was born on this day. He was a British ichthyologist specialising in the haplochromine cichlid fishes of Lake Victoria, east Africa. Greenwood worked at the Natural History Museum, London, throughout his career, initially under Dr Ethelwynn Trewavas, retiring in 1989 as deputy chief scientific officer.
Greenwood described 25 Genera and subgenera along with 69 species and is honoured in the name of the genus Greenwoodchromis and in the names of species under greenwoodi.
