The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco was inaugurated on this day.
Part of the Institut Océanographique, Fondation Albert Ier, Prince de Monaco (Oceanographic Institute Foundation Albert I, Prince of Monaco), founded by Prince Albert I of Monaco to explore oceanographic science, the world-renowned Museum in Monaco (Musée océanographique) is dedicated to public education and research. One of Europe’s finest and oldest aquariums its displays feature more than 6,000 specimens of fishes and invertebrates, including live coral (something of which the Museum was one of the pioneers), from tropical seas and from the Mediterranean.
