Pierre Antoine Delalande (1787 – 1823) was born on this day.
He was a French was a naturalist and explorer, also referred to as de la Lande or de Lalande, employed by the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle to collect natural history specimens. He collected in Brazil (1816) and in South Africa (1818 – 1821). The South African expedition returned with a collection that included 288 mammals, 2205 birds, 322 reptiles, 265 fish, and 3875 shellfish.

Delalande is honoured in species names under both delalandii and lalandi(i).
