This Day in History: 1839-03-13
Thomas Henry Tizard (1839 – 1924) was born on this day. He was an English naval officer and oceanographer and a member of the crew of the Challenger Expedition. Although Tizard was not among the civilian scientific staff of the expedition he would later help write the official account of the expedition, and also become a Fellow of the Royal Society.
Tizard is honoured in the name of a genus of ctenophores and in the names of a number of species under tizardi.
