Theodore Wells Pietsch III (1945 – ) was born on this day. A US ichthyologist at the University of Washington, specialising on the evolution, ecology, and behaviour of anglerfishes (shallow-water and deep-sea). He is the author of over 200 scientific and popular articles, including a dozen books, on marine ichthyology, and has also written on the history of ichthyology covering subjects such as Georges Cuvier, Louis Renard, and Charles Plumier,
