This Day in History: 1758-01-26

Joseph Hugues Boissieu La Martinière was born on this day. He was a French botanist and member of the ill-fated La Perouse Expedition, 1785 – 1788, a voyage of exploration inspired by the earlier voyages of Cook, which ended with the loss of both ships (L’Astrolabe and La Boussole) and all crew.
La Martinière described the first copepod from the Pacific Ocean along with various other marine lifeforms.
