David Starr Jordan was born on this day. US ichthyologist and the founding president of Stanford University. David Starr Jordan was one of the most influential ichthyologists of the late 19th – early 20th century, both individually and through his students. He wrote more than 50 books and published over 600 scientific papers; a search for authored taxa reveals the astonishing figure of 1600 taxa.
