Hector Frederik Estrup Jungersen was born on this day. A Danish marine biologist, professor of zoology and manager of the zoological museum department of vertebrates at the University of Copenhagen. He had a particular interest in fish anatomy and also wrote on pennatularians (sea-pens) and Alcyonaria (now referred to as Octocorallia or soft corals).

He is honoured in the names of 5 species as jungerseni.
